(Video) IN THE MOOD TO LEARN SOMETHING NEW?

Answering Emily Frankel's question, John Cullum mentions subjects he studied in college, wishing he'd studied harder and retained more.

Emily wants to be able to speak Spanish.

The Cullums discuss learning something new together.

John realizes the one thing he'd like to study right now -- start studying today -- is music, harmony and theory.

Hi Em and John. A very interesting question. If you could go anywhere, another country, a school, college, university, to learn something new, or that you always wanted to do, or that you want to revisit, (I'm taking liberties here) what would you want to learn?
I thought long and hard about this question even before watching the video.
I've learned so many things in my life, how to take cook, parent, grow plants, train animals, paint, write. Those are the things I've enjoyed learning. Well, not so much the cooking.
I think that learning has to be motivated.
If you're interested in something, the learning will come easy.
When we're young and in school, there's almost too much information coming at us. The brain is most able to take information in at this age, but there are stresses, distractions, and at a young age, we have to take in some information and let the rest go. Maybe for later. For a time when we have time.
College or university is no better. Sex, dating, marriage or partnership, the need to find a job. Unless we're very focussed individuals, we have to take in some information, and let the rest go.
I'm still learning the craft of writing, so I'm challenged enough not to want to take on anything more at the moment.
But our whole life is for learning.
Unless we're totally into physical hedonism, there is pleasure in learning. And the next thing we desire or need to learn will show itself when we are satisfied with the present thing we are learning.
To answer the question, I have no desire to learn anything new right now, but I'm sure that when the time is right, I will find something.
What a great question!

Good question today Emily. I think I would learn more about music and writing a book that
is sellable. Made me smile and chuckle hearing about what you each want to learn more about. John's comouter writing music sounds very fun and interesting too. kam
